In the region known as La Massana situated in the Vallnord Ski area you will find first class hotels and tourist facilities, together with shops selling top quality goods at extremely competitive prices.

In winter, the ski slopes attract thousands of visitors who come to Vallnord for its fantastic facilities, aimed at giving the whole family the very best holiday. The area's quintessential sport, skiing, can be combined with other activities, such as snow shoe hikes, cross country skiing, snow bikes, horse riding etc. In summer, the ski resorts change over to a wide variety of options: Mountain Biking, 4x4 Trails, climbing, canyoning, children’s play areas, etc. Vallnord is the real Pyrenees Mountain Park.

La Massana has one of Andorra's most impressive beauty spots: the Parc Natural Comunal de les Valls del Comapedrosa, a nature reserve created with the aim of preserving the area's exceptionally rich and diverse cultural and natural heritage.

The main attraction in the Massana reserve is its high mountain landscape and the six glacial lakes spread over its more than 1,500 hectares of territory. This is the highest area in the country. Visitors' eyes are immediately drawn to the Principality's highest peak, Alt de Comapedrosa (2,942 m.) dominating the valleys and giving fantastic views from its summit.

Resort Information

Like most of Andorra, the Vallnord ski area has excellent skiing for beginners and is also very good for intermediates and snowboarders too. There is limited skiing as well for the advanced skiers but if you balance this against the cost of a ski holiday in one of the other European ski destinations, Arinsal is excellent value for money.

On the Slopes:

Beginners (4star) – Vallnord is a perfect area to learn to ski or snowboard. Situated at the top of the gondola, the beginner area has doubled in size after €7million of investment. There is also a gentle nursery area situated next to the ski centre base. Both areas have excellent ski schools with many native English speaking instructors and there is never a shortage of easy runs to progress onto.

Intermediates (3star) - Intermediates will enjoy several gentle blue and red runs from Cota 2100m leading back down to the ski base. Higher up, from Pic Negre, there are some rather more demanding red runs. Over in Pal, there is a good choice of tree-lined runs, providing a good contrast to Arinsal.

Advanced (2.5star) - There is little to stretch the advanced skier in Arinsal or Pal, apart from a steep, unpisted black run descending from Pic Alt de la Capa to the bottom of the Port Negre trails. However, Arcalis, 25km away and accessible by a daily bus service from La Massana, provides more demanding runs and some great off-piste opportunities.

Snowboarding (3star) - For beginner and intermediate boarders there is plenty of varied terrain to enjoy in Arinsal and Pal, plus a fantastic 40000m2 freestyle area including a half-pipe, jumps, fun boxes, quarter-pipe, boarder-cross and chill-out area.
