Highlights / General details
Ride a traditional passenger train in Jalisco -- one of the only tequila-producing regions of Mexico -- and discover how the world’s tequila is made! You’ll visit a famous tequila distillery and witness the process of making this famous drink, fermented from the region’s blue agave. Along with a tequila tasting, dine on regional cuisine for lunch and top it all off with a folkloric show. Enjoy personal attention from your guide on this small-group tour, limited to 13 people.
After hotel pickup in Guadalajara around 8:15am, you’ll be transferred to the railway station to board a traditional Mexican train with your small group and guide. Settle in for the journey to the town of Amatitan aboard one of the country’s only passenger trains still remaining in operation. Located in the state of Jalisco, it's the only region in the country where tequila production is allowed.
During the approximate 2-hour ride, pass scenic rural landscapes and gaze out your train window at a field full of agaves. Upon arrival in the Tequila region, transfer by coach to Casa Herradura, one of the most famous tequila distilleries in the world.
Enjoy a small-group tour through the distillery as well as the Tequila Museum, where you’ll learn about past and present-day tequila production techniques from your guide. Hear about the indigenous people who invented the fermented agave drink and the Spanish who distilled the beverage into the tequila known today.
In the afternoon, enjoy a Mexican buffet lunch featuring regional dishes, accompanied by some tequila tasting. Complete your cultural tour with a folkloric show featuring Mexican mariachi music and dancing!
Your guide will accompany your small group back to Guadalajara by rail and transport you back to your hotel around 6:30pm.
